Post Op Instructions for Breast Reduction
- Medication Should Be Taken As Directed
- Do not take aspirin or anti-coagulants for 2 weeks.
- Prescription pain medication can cause nausea, vomiting & constipation. Take 1/2 a pill with food (NOT on an empty stomach) if needed. You may take another 1/2 pill in 20 minutes and up to 2 every 4 hours as needed for pain.
- Activity
- Limited first few days. Increase as tolerated.
- No smoking for 2 weeks before & after surgery.
- Good nutrition & increased fluids will help with healing.
- You may shower with anti-bacterial soap. Pat breast/nipple area dry. Do not rub. Keep nipple area covered with gauze pads when wearing bra.
- Wound care
- Swelling, bruising, tenderness, redness & some drainage is normal. Excessive amounts of drainage and redness should be reported to us.
- Frequently there is decreased nipple sensation following surgery. It will increase over a period of time.
- Call (262) 245-0535, Ext. 2211 if you experience:
- Pus-like or foul smelling drainage
- Temperature greater than 100 degrees
- Excessive bleeding or drainage
- Increasing pain that is intolerable
